I have attempted the challenge on our Dot, Dot, Dot project. I began trying to use GarageBand on my computer, but I have no idea how to use it, or even play an instrument. I looked up tutorials for the program, but I was still lost after watching them. So I decided to video tape them. I placed the camera in front of a wall and posted a paper reading the gestalt principle during the clip. And behind the camera i made a beat with the handle on scissors to make up each principle. I feel like the videos show each principle well, but i think it is easier to notice the principle by looking at dots on paper.

"Snapping Away" >>> 20 Pictures Of Favorite Drawing
I choose my drawing because i tend to like smaller and thinner lines. It reminds me of old chinese writing. I just drew different shapes using a point on a fork. I just started taking 20 random pictures of it, and after looking at them I see different objects in a few of them, which i had no intentions of doing.
My drawing :)
"Drawing On Ink" >>> Marks, Music, And Words Process
I choose my least favorite painting to draw on. I did not want to mess any of my other ones up. And I am not the greatest drawer either, those skills need some help.
Original: I didn't take one of the entire sheet of paper, but there is a close up shot of part of the painting.
The process during my sketches. I saw the black dots and they looked like clouds to me, so I decided to draw swirly shapes to look like stars.
"Humans Are Great Dots" >>> 2D Project 1, Part 3
Below are my final four Human Dot's. They all turned out very similar to my original dot sketches. I love the way the balloons look with them too! And we are down underneath all those balloons. We were completely covered from head to toe in white balloons. Yes it was hot and nerve wracking under there. A few times while laying there, a balloon popped super loud right next to my ears. Very scary time!
We also got a good critique on our balloons in class. Ours were not discussed for very long at all, but i heard one student say they liked the scavenger hunt part of it. You begin looking for a person and then one just jumps out at you.
The photoshop part of our pictures did not turn out as well as i was expecting them to be. Some peoples are better than others, it was just getting late at night as we all ended up putting it. But i still love the balloons and the texture that they all created.

"Covered With Balloons" >>> Human Dot Process
Our entire group met up on Wednesday to finish our human dots. It went much smoother than it did in class. I am finally beginning to like group projects a little bit more. Photographing the dots went fairly well, it just took extremely long for each shot.
I really like the balloon idea now. Every other group used just sheets and paper dots. I think we were the only group to use something other than those two materials.
I was a dot in every shot. We laid down on the ground in all white and covered our bodies with white balloons. And we would either hold black balloons or they were placed on top of us, depending on their locations. My job was easy, just to model our balloons. But just to give you some advice. never wear all white and roll around on the ground. They don't make the greatest combinations!

"Painting Lyrics" >>> Marks, Music, and Words Process
After WASH I did my sketches for the Marks, Music, and Words Project. I ended up choosing the 9th Method. It involved placing tape onto the paper and taking it off after you painted your page. I felt like this one would look really cool, and it does to me. But some of my paintings i did, i think may look even sweeter if they do not have a patch of paint missing from them. But they reminded me of some of Howard Sherman's paintings, since he would draw a piece of tape instead of actually using one.
I have posted some of my favorite ones that i ended up making, but I ended up making a total of 16 different sketches. And after adding up all of my music time, it was about an hour and 5 minutes of painting these lyrics. I chose to listen to The All American Rejects; I do not have a very many full hours of music for a one single singer. But I did for the All American Rejects. And here are some of my favorite paintings:
Song: Damn Girl
Time: 4 minutes
Used: chopstick
Song: Another Heart Calls
Time: 4 minutes 30 seconds
Used: crumbled bag
Song: Breakin
Time: 5 minutes
Used: pen tip
Song: Move Along
Time: 4 minutes 30 seconds
Used: chopstick
Song: The Wind Blows
Time: 4 minutes 30 seconds
Used: sugar packet
Song: Back To Me
Time: 4 minutes 30 Seconds
Used: chopstick
"We Need Some More Oxygen!" >>> Human Dot Process
Today we also started our Human Dot Project. I got to say, I'd rather work by myself than in a group. It is a good experience, but I like to get my homework done soon, and not procrastinate. So I drew myself a quick sketch of what our final human dot project is suppose to look like.
So far its going relatively good. For a while I thought the balloons was a horrible idea. They were constantly popping and we could not figure out how to make a large dot to save our lives.
And we all got very tired of blowing up balloons! We also started taking our Dot Pictures today. So far they seemed like they are going to look very cool! On wednesday we all have to meet up and finish our dot pictures.
"The Weekly Lectures" >>> Lectures 7/8
Tuesday Lecture #7:
In class today we discussed many things in our lecture. We learned about Dada and Surrealism art. Below is some of my basic notes:
In class today we discussed many things in our lecture. We learned about Dada and Surrealism art. Below is some of my basic notes:
Dada: political anti art, communist anarchist, German Swiss
1916 Cabaiet Voltaire opens Zurich Switzerland
1919 Berlin Dada club founded
Surrealism: French
1925 First Surrealist Exhibit in Paris
In the afternoon we began on our new project: Marks, Music, and Words. I really like this project so far. I love being free with my objects and just paint away while feeling the music. This is a picture of my favorite sketch that i did today. I was having difficulties for a while though, my india ink was clogged and the paint did not want to come out :( But i finally got it unclogged, and it began to work good right as we cleaned up. Oh well, its ready for thursday!
Thursday Lecture #8:
Today in lecture we discussed abstract expressionism. I loved the clip about the laser graffiti on large objects. I think that would be amazing to see in real life. I have never heard of anything like this before. So i was stunned when i saw it. Critiquing the dot projects was very interesting, i liked to see the way each group approached their dots.

"Ketchup" >>> Lectures and More
Well I have many many lectures that I never blogged about, so I'm going to blog about all of them at once. (and hopefully after this they stay up to date!)
Lecture 2 : January 21, 2010
To Present Or Represent?
We received lots and lots of vocabulary in this lecture. And i felt what was stressed on the most was nonrepresentational art. Maybe due to the fact that it is much more common than representational art. I really liked the scale of representation that we had to organize with different works of art. We were also asked the question of "Is the dot, dot, dot project representational or not?" I think it is in a way. To us, the artists, it is portraying the gestalt principle, so that makes it representational. But if a viewer was to just walk up to it, there would probably not be any representation that jumped out at them.
Speaker : January 25, 2010
Howard Sherman
The artist Howard Sherman came to speak for us. He told us practically his life story on how he began making art. He started off by making cartoons for newspapers and starting becoming more and more famous. He inspired me to go and put my name out there. I would love to get a job over the summer where I could make art for a company, or even work for them and see what all it takes. But I really like all of his art. Some of them were a bit much for my taste, but overall i think he is an amazing artist. I see when doing art like that to just go crazy, and not to think very hard about what it is that you are making.
Lecture 3 : January 28, 2010
Art History, Theory, and Criticism
There are three different branches of art thinking. Art history, theory and criticism. Art history is broken down even further into style, influence, and medium. And Art theory is basically about the changes of beauty throughout history. Every decade or so there is a new way of art. Art criticism is basically a persons emotions and reactions on their faces whenever they look at a piece of art.
Lecture 4 : January 29, 2010
Art Today
This was a very short lecture that we had in class. We basically summarized the author, Edward Lucie-Smith's, life/ He was born in 1943 in british colonial. we were given two words: postmodernism and modernism. We had to distinguish between artworks to figure out which one nit was. i absolutely love the book art today. the pictures and photographs in it are very cool looking. This is a book i can see in my collection for many years.
Lecture 5 : February 2, 2010
19th Century: Birth of the Isms
We just discussed two different art meanings again: impressionism and post impressionism. And we saw different pictures of art, debating on which time era they were from. the impressionism painters included monet, renoir, cassat, and sisley. While the post impressionism artists were van gogh, gauguin, cezanne, and seurat. Just like the name makes it sound, the post impressionism paintings were completely influenced by the impressionisms.
Lecture 6 : February 4, 2010
