"Making Marks" >>> 2D Project 2 - Part 1

This is my booklet of all of the marks that I made. I used 25 of my drawings inside of it. It turned out very interesting and all of the marks look beautiful inside of the booklet. The booklet turned out to be about 16 x 21 inches. It is a bit on the large size, but I figured since I had all of the materials to make it large, I might as well.

The stab binding of my book is made with ribbon against a black mat board.

This is the inside of my booklet. There were a variety of small paintings and large ones. And they were mixed into the book to make up a nice selection. I also have them grouped with my favorites and least favorites scattered about the booklet. I will definitely make more booklets like this one. They are very clean and organized.

"Minimum Lectures" >>> Lecture 12

This week in WASH only had one lecture. I couldn't believ how few there was, and it was discussing Minimal Art. It was pretty interesting, with how powerful the artwork was even though there was the minimum amount necessary to construct the art. Some artists that did minimal art are:
Carl Andre: He used magnesium in many of his sculptures. Many of his sculptures also looked like tile, and you are even allowed to walk across them in art galleries, which was pretty amazing.

Donald Judd: He used more of industrial pieces for his sculptures. And they often looked like stair ateps.

Frank Stella: The picture above was a painting by him. He used many stripes in his paintings. He painted them all by hand as well, which seems like it would take a very steady hand.

Dan Flavin: Lots of his artwork contained florescent light bulbs suspended to the walls.

Minimal Art is very interesting an unique. The Chinati Foundation also seems like it wouuld be a very interesting place to visit one day.

"The Expressive Clay" >>> Self Portrait Process

These are my clay moldings for the different attitudes and emotions we were given.

Excited: the ball is trying to jump out is is so happy
Confused: the ball does not know if its a circle or a square

Excited: the ball is trying to jump out is is so happy
depressed: The clay has been walked all over, and is smashed and very sad

Anxious: Its trying to release all of its feelings and do what it was planning to do
Satisfied: Its happy just like it is, even though it is imperfect

This is the second day of matching similar objects to each other. After dividing into groups we tried to make a very strong image, and mine ended up being one of the strongest, while having a great similarity because of the shapes.

"If I Were an Object" >>> Self Portrait Process

My homework to collect different samples of objects that reflect my personality. Some of them might be a little bit corny, but I had to work with the small amount of objects in my dorm.

These four pairs of objects relate literally.

A ribbon because I am girly and like to get dressed up and go out.
A coke tab because I am just as giving and let people borrow my cute clothes.

A clothespin because I like to ramble about random topics (like when the clothes pin opens and closes).
A rubberband because when frustrated I pop and I say the exact same thing over and over.

A balloon because I am high on life.
A "butterfly" paper clip because I spread my wings and fly, and I have no limits.

A glue stick because i like to stick with my plans.
A stretchy man because I am bendable and can make time for others.

These four pairs are related by formal similarities.

A pack of gum because I am bubbly.
A laffy taffy because I love to laugh.

A piece of chalk because I can easily erase things that I do not want to hold on to.
A crayon because I am bright.

A burts bee can because I love when the seasons change, but that means its time to use chap stick.
A bottle cap because I hold on tightly.

A straw because I go with the flow.
A highlighter because I like to point out the good in life.

"Lucky Eight" >>> Marks, Music, and Words Process

Here are my final eight quotes/text images. I love every one of them, and have no idea which to use as my final two. So hopefully it will be easier for me to decide after Tuesday's critique in class. I also changed one of my quotes. In class when we had turned in our quotes I had not listened to any music lyrics. But when I did, I fell in love with the lyrics from a song "The rest is still unwritten." And I thought the quote fit perfectly in my paintings.

Using the quote "The rest is still unwritten"
