We looked at two different artworks and explained if it was art, what we thought, and what we felt about each one.
As I looked at the quilt I noticed many different things about it. I jotted many things down in my notes about the quilt. It has many patterns and shapes to it. I could tell it was handmade, and it contained many rips and tears, making it have been old and used. The quilt also made me focus into the center of it. As the diamonds got smaller and smaller, I see more in my eyes, even thought the do not appear on the quilt, sort of a use of continuance. to me, the quilt looked like a baseball diamond, with each little red square acting a person watching the game. The quilt also has radial symmetry, with many different colors, as red being the most noticeable to my eyes.
The painting by West Hicks was very dark and gloomy. It hold one light source and many shadows to it as well. In the right hand corner of the painting, it looks like a ghost is watching over the room. But it is hidden in the dark shadows. The light makes me focus on the desk. And the desk contains many random objects like a pear and a plant. The plant looked like it was wilting and dying, while the pear looked like it was rotting away. With the ghost and these aspects, I feel like it is trying to display a message as to keep with the new and refined things of life. The light also makes my eyes continue on, wondering what else is shined on with lights, and what else is left in the dreary darkness. And the painting has also been painted on a canvas stretched across a window frame.
